Who We Are

Our Mission Statement

You Can Make A Difference,
Support the Community!

CNU develops inner-city youth by encouraging them to forge ahead in their educational endeavors. We prepare students to learn and outfit them with the tools they need for success in and out of the classroom. We believe learning is an ongoing interactive process. It's not enough to give school supplies, gifts, and scholarships. CNU supports positive reinforcement by providing healthy role models along with educational support.

Our History

Our activities are made possible with long-term support from the local business community, and corporations including Comcast, ComEd, Target, Walgreens, and more.

27th Ward Alderman Walter Burnett Jr. conceived the idea for Chicago Neighbors United after witnessing drug dealers hosting picnics and giving away sneakers. It troubled him that young people looked up to these negative influences. Chicago Neighbors United began to combat the pervasive violence endangering the lives of inner-city youth. By producing positive community events, CNU would provide a haven from ceaseless gang turf battles and cultivate a sense of pride in the neighborhood's children. Interacting with positive role models allows children to focus on growing up, enjoying their childhood, and staying in school.

Meet the Team
