Programs

All of our programs are designed to strengthen the community and support those who need it most.

Our activities are made possible with long-term support from the local business community, and corporations including Comcast, ComEd, Target, Walgreens, and more.

Stay in School Picnic

Since 1995, this event has provided underprivileged inner-city youth with food, school supplies, and gift certificates to help them throughout the school year. With the support of local businesses and corporate sponsorships, the Stay in School Picnic has become an annual event and has grown to over 2,000 participants.

Back to School Parade

This annual community parade celebrates the start of the new school year. Local celebrities, including the mayor and television news personalities, have served as Grand Marshall.

Good Grades + Hard Work = Smooth Rewards

Through this program, elementary school children are encouraged to improve their grades at least one level. Upon proof of increase, CNU will reward the student with gift certificates, books, game tickets, or other donated items.

Senior Support

In addition to serving youth, CNU has developed programming with the seniors of our community in mind. Our programs promote a healthy lifestyle and provide outlets for social engagement. We have established volunteer opportunities for young people with seniors that encourage valuable intergenerational relationships
